Red meat backing boosts future leaders
Beef + Lamb New Zealand was ‘blown away’ by the quality and number of applications for its inaugural 2026 Agricultural Student Scholarships.
That’s according to Olivia Weatherburn, national extension programme manager, who says the initiative is a vital investment in the red meat sector’s future.
Ten recipients have been announced for the scholarship, which is valued at $1500 each and is awarded to students who have completed at least one year of agricultural-related tertiary study.
Eligible institutions include Massey University, Lincoln University, Otago University and Telford Polytechnic.
The funding goes towards their ongoing studies.
Scholars also gain mentorship opportunities with B+LNZ leaders.
Interactive sessions help build industry connections, practical insight and professional confidence.
“Supporting future talent is essential to the ongoing success and sustainability of New Zealand’s sheep and beef sector,” Weatherburn says.
“This year’s recipients show real passion, determination, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in our industry.”
