Change of guard at fert council

Dairy farmer and president of Hawke’s Bay Federated Farmers Jim Galloway has taken over from Anders Crofoot as chair of the Fertiliser Quality Council.

A key priority is driving further adoption of the Fertmark and Spreadmark schemes, which have delivered significant cost savings for the industry through improved nutrient management.

“Farming and environmental sustainability are at the core of everything we do,” Galloway says. “I’m passionate about ensuring we make the right choices for both the farm and the environment. This aligns perfectly with the FQC’s vision and will be reflected in our ongoing initiatives.”

He brings to his new position a wealth of experience in the agricultural and fertiliser industries, along with a strong commitment to advancing the FQC’s mission of improving fertiliser quality and promoting best practices, the council says.

Galloway began his career as a fertiliser representative and has since gained extensive knowledge in dairy, sheep, and beef farming.

In his Federated Farmers role, he has built a strong network of stakeholders and is widely respected for his advocacy of sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship.

Notably, Federated Farmers played a key role in founding and supporting the Fertiliser Quality Council.

In 2012, Galloway and his wife were awarded the Ballance Agri-Nutrients Nutrient Management Award, honouring their commitment to using nutrients efficiently to enhance productivity while maintaining environmental responsibility.

“I am honoured to take on the role of chairperson for the FQC. Anders, my predecessor, has made significant contributions during his tenure, and it’s exciting to see the positive outcomes of his hard work,” Galloway says.

“I look forward to building on this strong foundation and increasing awareness of the value of the Fertmark and Spreadmark schemes. It’s crucial that we continue to communicate the real benefits of these programs to all stakeholders, particularly end-users, and I’m excited to lead the charge.”
